Call for Papers for a Cityscape Symposium on Habitat III

Abstracts due: January 29, 2016
Papers due: June 15, 2016

We invite paper submissions for a dedicated Symposium in Cityscape: A Journal of Policy Development and Research on topics related to Habitat III. HUD, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, is organizing the U.S. effort for Habitat III, the U.N. Conference on Housing and Urban Sustainability, held every 20 years. (www.habitat3.org) As the U.S. and the world prepare for Habitat III, we recognize that the world we live in is very different from what it was 20 years ago, and many new changes will face our communities over the next 20 years. High among these differences are the rapid and varied pace of urbanization and the shift to an increasingly urban global population. The Habitat III Conference, the preparatory process leading up to it, and the outcomes and next steps building on it provide an opportunity to make connections between and across international and domestic contexts, to share and build on lessons learned, and to push policy and practice.

Papers accepted for the Cityscape Habitat III Symposium must be well-organized, original contributions to knowledge that clearly tie back to Habitat III. Submission proposals may be theoretical or empirical, and papers that provide discussions on policy implications are encouraged. Papers accepted for this Symposium will be subject to a double-blind review process, run out of the Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R) at HUD.

Please submit a brief (100-200 word) abstract describing your proposed paper by January 29, 2016. Abstracts may be submitted electronically to Katrina.A.Durbak@hud.gov. We are very interested in learning about work that could make a contribution to this symposium. We are also interested in reaching out to early career scholars, e.g., graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior researchers and academics. Please forward this notice to colleagues who are doing work in this area.
